The villa today

On 3 September 2014, the three equal winners of the Reiners Foundation's 2014 Architecture Prize were honored in Hamburg.
House K on Lake Starnberg was one of the winners. Here is an excerpt from the jury minutes:

Villa on Lake Starnberg, Titus Bernhard Architekten

"A subtly elegant villa whose materiality is limited to white, fine-grained marble plaster, warm, light-colored sandstone and glass. The complex cubature with penetrations, nesting, skylights and atriums as well as the extensive terrace landscape with pool allows the house and garden to merge seamlessly into one another and thematizes the transition between interior and exterior space in order to stage the beautiful visual relationships of the property. The jury was impressed by the subtle formal language and the stylistic devices of classical modernism, which create an independent architectural language through the fusion of building and garden/nature."

An accompanying publication published by DVA presents the 25 best entries in the competition, most of which come from German-speaking countries.
