Garmisch-Partenkirchen tax office, 2007 competition
The conceptual approach lies in the balance between a rational administrative building and a satire on the complex tax system in our country. An economic and functional "tax office building" is given its own identity, its regional reference and a friendly, citizen-oriented aura through the treatment of light, its materiality (wood) and an overall graphic concept. We opted for an independent, simple, directional structure that stands randomly and naturally on the site, which, as a three-storey block with two access cores, represents a tangible spatial continuum, above all through its air spaces.
Inland Revenue Office, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Competition 2007
The conceptual approach lies in the balance between rational administration building and a parody of the complex tax system in Germany. Through the management of light, through its materiality (wood) and a graphical overall concept, the economical and functional Inland Revenue Office building achieves its own identity, its regional frame of reference and a friendly, people-oriented charisma. We decided on a freestanding, simple, directed building that stands on the property by chance and self-evidently, a three-storey block with two access cores that presents above all through its open spaces a tangible space continuum.
