House ES
The ES house was built in 2021 in a quiet location on a tree-lined plot not far from Munich. The new building picks up on the theme of simplicity/complexity.
An initially simple, elongated cube is formed into a habitable sculpture solely by subtraction from the volume. The incisions are not only based on design considerations, but above all provide essential functional zoning. They are partly orthogonal, partly diagonally composed and break up the otherwise closed building envelope. Taking into account the times of day and seasons, they follow a complex lighting pattern, giving the cube dynamism and tension.
The most striking incision extends over the entire height of the building and opens up the compact volume in a U-shape to the south. The resulting light-flooded rooms on the ground and upper floors are accessed along the central longitudinal axis of the incision. Inside, the house is characterized by the generosity of the open room sequences. The large openings also emphasize the relationship to the outside space. The garden and the magnificent trees on the property can be experienced inside. There is a separate granny apartment in the basement that can be accessed from the outside.
Two different plaster textures were used to support the sculptural design. The outer, closed shell is finished with a high-quality, white mineral plaster with a grain size of three millimetres on mineral wool insulation. In contrast, a very fine-grained Carrara marble plaster was applied to the incised wall surfaces. The ES house thus fits in with the range of white, neo-modern villas from Titus Bernhard Architekten .
Aesthetics and sustainability were combined in accordance with the client's wishes. The primary energy supply for the house is provided by district heating from geothermal energy and meets the KfW 55 standard. The radical minimalism down to the last detail required precise craftsmanship.
