House H
In the surroundings of a heterogeneous development of villas and taking into account the restrictive floor space and floor area ratios in the south of Munich, "Haus H" makes the most of all parameters and radiates a friendly atmosphere into the surroundings.
The L-shaped complex develops generously as a free floor plan in the spirit of the classical villa tradition from the north-east as a frame, yet it is also an opening gesture around the plot and garden. The villa follows the guiding theme of "stacked cubes" with a free interplay of a jura-clad base storey and light-colored plastered shifted "units" on the upper floor.
The design decisions always follow the dialectical principles of "structure versus surface", "open versus closed", "heavy versus light", "nature versus artifact", "few openings to the north and east versus generous glazing to the south and west", etc....
The access from the street to the house entrance is staged as a path along a narrow water basin. Nevertheless, all the design elements are given a meaningful function: the bedroom wing, "shifted" to the south with a large overhang, takes on the task of roofing over the entrance. The sloping recesses and reveals elevate the sculptural shape of the building and naturally provide structural sun protection without additional shading measures.
The interior continues the careful, minimalist detail characterized by a few materials. Bronze-plated brass for gates and doors creates a sense of "value" in combination with natural stone and plaster.
