PTG administration building

A project and transfer company operating throughout Germany is inviting entries for a competition to design the new company headquarters with underground parking garage in Augsburg.

The competition entry, which was awarded 1st place, responds to the brief with an alternative approach:

Instead of distributing the room program over three levels and arranging the parking underground, a concept is pursued in which the parking is offered as an integrated parking deck within the two-storey structure, taking into account the high groundwater level. The wedge-shaped storage and core zone forms a buffer between the parking garage and the training area on the first floor. In addition to the functional positioning of the administration, the space generated here offers the possibility of a generous arrangement of high-quality lounge and conference areas around a central, west-facing roof terrace on the upper floor. The vertical spatial structure between the levels is strengthened by generous air spaces and galleries with hanging gardens. By redistributing the functional content over two levels, an attempt is made to create completely new spatial and functional relationships and thus make an independent contribution in terms of content, space and economy. Alternative façade studies investigated the possibilities of establishing the building envelope in a flat or perforated form, incorporating the corporate identity of the company in the mediocre structural environment of the industrial estate.
