
In recent years, we have taken a rather critical view of the single-family home phenomenon. The focus has been on the disproportionately high consumption of resources and the costs to the general public resulting from the various public subsidies for "house building". Unfortunately, all taxpayers have to pay for these populist political campaigns, including those citizens who live in urban apartments and never intended to build a detached house. That is one side of the coin. But there is also the other, that of individual meaning, self-realization and value creation. If we oppose the forced gratification of large sections of the population through excessive support from the house builders' lobby, then it would also be logical to oppose any legal obstacles to the freedom of the individual expressed in house building.
