Guiding principles:
The concept for the IHK extension is based on the following key considerations:The existing building is respected in its qualities as an architectural document, as a manifesto of the early 1970s.The new building complements the two existing "brothers" as a compact, third structure to the ensemble. Interventions in the valuable trees on the park-like site are largely avoided.The materials and building materials of the new building are references to the existing buildings, but the design elements are intended as a complementary interpretation of them: this includes in particular the examination of the tectonics, the structure and the surfaces The centerpiece and attraction of the new building are the large event hall as an "ark" and the "city loggia".Clear functional areas, simple orientation and flexible use are the primary design objectives.
