Guiding principles:
The examination of the site and the question of the relationship between school content and architectural expression leads to the consideration of interweaving a flexible basic building structure with a "modeled" outdoor space: we present landscape - betweenscape - humanscape as a concept of interaction: as a didactic approach, it stands for the attempt to bring the elements of architecture and landscape into a lively, ambivalent dialogue.
With the school grounds as an "architectural-landscape" experience, pupils are offered the opportunity to engage with the designed environment - a challenge both conceptually and in terms of structural implementation in the existing rural environment. This conceptual approach and the desired "sensuality" should be combined with the required robustness of functional architecture.
The materials and equipment of the building can be spartan, which saves costs, and need not entail any restrictions in terms of function or aesthetics. Orientation, lighting, flexible usability, pathways, etc. should fulfill the various requirements without restriction: rational floor plans, variable in structure, expandable.
On the other hand, there is a nuanced outdoor space design: different courtyards are to be treated in a differentiated way. The intention is a play of scales, of spaces and interspaces, also of nuances, tension between looseness and density, openness and unity, surface and structure.
An aspired artistic approach with different structures, simple materials, hard-wearing surfaces (tartan, synthetic resin-bound floor coverings, plastic granules, gravel, etc.) support a holistic concept.
It should be fun to go to school, it should be a place with an identity!
