Haus B, Stadtbergen

Haus B, Stadtbergen/Augsburg, 2002 – 2004

House B, Stadtbergen/Augsburg, 2002 – 2004

For the time being, this house will remain the final member in a series of cubic residences built between 1996 and 2002. When construction commenced, the parcel was thickly wooded. The forestation, going back to the 1960s, was carried out with no regard for the correct plant populations required for the species-specific cultivation of beeches, oaks, spruces, birches, etc. Consequently, many sick and dead trees have been removed, and a suitable site defined.

The brightly plastered cube is articulated via strip windows and slits, becoming a habitable sculpture. In the framework of an artistic competition, temporary light projections will play across the four facades via so-called gobos, thereby invoking memories of the site in its former forested state, in the sense of an artistic transfer. In this way, in 2005, the building will become a kind of camouflage.
